Domaine de Camparnaud Cuvée Rouge

Easy-Drinking Everyday Red: Smooth and Delicious
A half hour’s drive northwest into the hills in the northwest of Bezier is the medieval village of Roquebrun. The village is attached to the rocky mountains that rise up and away from the Mediterranean Sea towards the Massif Central along the Orb river. This lovely area enjoys 300 days of sun each year, which allows lemons, mimosa, and cactus to grow on their own. The river winds its way through rocky cliffs carved from years of erosion. The fortified city of Carcassonne lays an hour’s drive to the west.

The wine consists of 30% Carignan (30 year-old vines), 25% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Because of the rocky terrain, the vines are harvested manually and fermented separately to ensure that each grape variety retains its best expression. Thewines are then blended and are allowed to rest before bottling. This particular cuvée is designed to be consumed while young, with all the freshness of the fruit, and smooth tannins. The wine is bright garnet with fresh red berries on the nose, with a pleasant roundness on the palate, and a very smooth and medium-long finish. Not too complicated, but exceptionally pleasant to drink. Just the wine to choose for a nice evening meal on the deck or patio.
